The weekend I arrived in Shenzhen in August, as an actual typhoon was bearing down on the city, I found myself enveloped in a metaphorical typhoon setting the stage for an exhilarating and unpredictable adventure at SIGS. The “typhoon energy” lingered throughout my stay, a brief but intense chapter that left an unforgettable mark on my life.

The journey began and finished with the academic rigor that characterizes Tsinghua University. As I immersed myself in my studies, the professors welcomed me with open arms. They weren't just educators; they became mentors, giving me their precious time and making me see projects in a whole new light. They made my academic pursuits both warm and meaningful.

The people here at SIGS, incredibly hospitable and welcoming, made my day-to-day life a joy. Classmates encouraged me through tough assignments. The campus canteen, heaven for a devoted foodie like me, turned every meal into a delicious exploration of Chinese cuisine.

Additionally, the unsung heroes—the dedicated staff, from administrative offices to the maintenance crew—played a pivotal role in ensuring my stay was comfortable and enriching. I extend my gratitude to each one of them.

The openness and curiosity of my classmates made me always feel welcome. I even had the opportunity to discover my own culture by dancing to traditional Mexican folk songs (as the female part) during a cultural exchange evening organized by the SIGS Graduate Student Union.

As the semester is coming to an end, I am reflecting on the short, yet intense experience. It wasn't just about classes and exams; it was about embracing a new culture, facing challenges head-on, and, most importantly, discovering facets of myself that were waiting to unfold. Tsinghua SIGS was not just a destination; it was a journey of a lifetime—an exploration of knowledge, culture, and the boundless possibilities that come with an open mind and a welcoming heart.
